One of the worst forms of injustice in the world also happens closest to home. Women are abused, mistreated and killed across societies and cultures around the world. Women often suffer injustice behind a veil of silence and hide their shame from the public world.
CIJR from the very beginning has played a catalyst role in addressing gender injustice issues. We believe that gender injustice is one of the most insidious and difficult forms of hierarchy in the world to overcome. We advocate for the eradication of all structures that perpetuate gender injustice, support the transformation of gender identity built on these structures and work for reconciliation between the genders.
Members of the CIJR team have been attending the United Nation Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) sessions every year since 2003. At CSW meetings in the past, CIJR has lobbied for the inclusion of the role of boys and men in addressing gender injustice and for implementation of steps for the eradication of violence against women.
In February 2008, a CIJR delegation attended the 52nd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. The theme was “Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women”.
